    I think it depends on the kid. My daughter rode from the time she could walk. She was very good at it. She did endurance riding from the time she was 8 to about age 15 and loved it. On the other hand, I bought my son a wonderful pony when he was 5. He didn't like riding very much, and stopped riding after about 6 months. He didn't ride again and I didn't push it.
