You have no way to know that. The damage may not be apparent to
casual observation, and may not show up until later in life. There is
plenty of evidence that some elevated and long-duration physical
stresses are harmful to young bodies.
Not every child that rides a 50 mile ride at five years old may be
harmed by it. If ten people participate in an activity, and nine
survive it unharmed, does that mean no harm is done?

There is plenty of evidence for it, although I have no specific cites
to offer. That's why I suggested that the Junior Committee contact an
expert to get good information to guide them, not just say it isn't a
problem.
