>The criteria for heart rate was 60 and
at each vet check my horse`s heart rate dropped below 60 within the 4 minutes.
But I got points deducted just the same...something about losing points
for numbers that are above 40. So is the criteria really
60 or 40 - I am not sure I understand the reasoning....
The "criteria" is 60--that means that your horse will not be allowed out of
the check until the pulse has recovered to 60 or lower, and in fact, will be
disqualified if the pulse does not drop to 60 or lower by a given time. As
to the 40, CTR is judged by how far your horse deviates from normal. So 60
is acceptable to go on, but 40 is resting normal. So between 40 and 60 is
the area in which points are deducted. If your horse recovers to 40 or
lower, you get a perfect score for that category. Between 40 and 60, your
horse is clinically acceptable to go on, but has not been able to reach the
ideal to achieve a perfect score. Every other parameter also has a "pass"
point and a "full score" point, and horses in between are docked points
accordingly.
Think of CTR like a math test. 70% may be a
passing score, but is also a C grade. Think of that as "criteria."
But to not lose points at all, you have to get ALL the problems right--or
100%. So if you got an 80%, you got points off, but you still passed, or
met criteria. If you got a 95%, you got an A--and that's like getting a 44
pulse and only losing one point or a fraction of a point, because you were close
to perfect, but not quite.
