When President Bush denied the $34 million approved by both Houses of
Congress for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Betty Allen and
Lois Abraham, independently of each other, came up with the same idea,
to try to get 34 million Americans to donate a dollar bill or check to the
UNFPA. This idea is so grassroots, so idealistic,and so improbable, that it
is having amazing success.
The UNFPA works for voluntary family planning, safe births, HIV prevention,
etc.
