Not contagious, very serious (can lead to blindness), allergic basis.
Sometimes the allergy is related to a locally common bacteria in the
environment; this does not, however, make it contagious. Like other
allergies, it tends to run in families. Every region of the country has its
own causes & best management plans. In our region, vaccinating against
Leptospirosis seems to reduce the incidence.
