[RC] Additional Info on the USA-E Horse number - Michael Maul
>From Torri Nahorniak USA-E
Dear Mike,
I saw your posting on Ridecamp and wanted to clarify my first explanation.
There are so many numbers it gets confusing. I think this should help clear
it up. If you have any further questions please let me know.
First there is the HORSE ID NUMBER (what the original USA Equestrian memo
was about). This number is free to everyone until December 1, 2003. This
number will be required by all horses competing in a USA Equestrian
recognized event in any discipline. The goal is to connect this to
affiliate or breed organizations number so the rider only has to remember
one number, but the HORSE ID NUMBER must still be applied for. There is a
spot on the form that asks for the horse's affiliate ID to cover this.
Although AERC is not an affiliate, if you would be interested in working
with the Information Systems group to connect the databases I could
certainly look into it and pass on the information.
The other number is a HORSE RECORDING NUMBER. This number has been in place
for quite a while. The HORSE RECORDING NUMBER may be obtained for $50 for
the year or $150 for a life recording. A horse must be RECORDED (for either
the year or lifetime) to compete in an FEI event. The HORSE ID NUMBER will
not cover FEI rides. A horse must have a LIFE RECORDING to obtain a
passport.
If a horse has a RECORDING NUMBER it need not apply for a HORSE ID NUMBER.
Torri
