????????
"Day members" don't get points either. Their membership ends when the
event is over, the AERC has no more means to punish them than it would
a non-member without a "day membership."
However, when someone enters an event, they agree to be bound by the
rules of the event. If they break the rules, the ride management can
disqualify them and not give them any awards or recognition,
irrespective of any AERC membership. If a ride manager does not
enforce AERC rules, on non-members as well as members, the AERC can
take appropriate action against ride management (which does have to be
full AERC members).
Having someone be a "day member" buys no additional leverage for
enforcing rules on them.

Then that is a difference between you and me -- I do see it as wrong,
if someone isn't willing to pay what their benefits cost, to expect
someone else to pay for them. And if the amount collected by the
ten-dollar fee is such small potatoes, why doesn't the AERC just get
rid of it, and avoid the problems and hard feelings it causes (at
least for some people)?
Oh, BTW, in the last decade the members' dues increased something like
25%, the non-member fee increased 400% and was extended to cover more
rides. For most of the AERC history, there were no non-member fees,
we rolled out the welcome mat.
