Re: [RC] 2002 WEC, position of the Toulouse Group - Maggie Mieske
I really have only two comments to make not being an "international"
competitor (I think it's about time I join AERC International and become
more informed though)...
I agree Pierre that the qualifications standards should be raised for the
WEC...I don't think hiring/leasing horses for qualified riders should be
allowed. (Don't the horses have to meet some minimum qualification to be
ridden in the event?) Even though they are not much at this time, even I
must meet the minimum standard of 300 miles WITH my horse if I wish to
compete in the NC. I believe the WEC is about horse and rider TEAMS. It is
not about one rider or about one horse...it is the TEAM that makes the sport
"endurance". At least that's how I feel.
Regarding this being an "elitist" competition...I do like though that
regular, ordinary, everyday people have the opportunity to qualify and
attend such an event as this. But ordinary or elitist, they should have to
do their homework...on the horse which they will be riding should they
attend.
Maybe I am crazy and I am not well versed in the subject but I feel this is
only logical.
Maggie
