[RC] barefootin - Randy and Cheryl Winter
Howard,
congratulations on taking your horses through the ride barefoot. I would
LOVE to be able to have the luxury of good terrain like that. Here in
Colorado if I would try to ride barefoot on our ROCKY trails (they don't
call them the Rocky Mountains for nothin) I would have no foot left to work
with much less one that was not demolished from excessively rocky and hard
ground. Just keep your options open to using boots when and if needed. In
this season of extreme drought,(read 100 year kind) and heat, our trails are
as unforgiving as I have ever known them to be. A close runner up to
training on concrete with rock strewn over it. Even with good shoeing and
pads, the concussion and wear has made me back off my normal training
program to help conserve their legs. Not all places are as nice as some of
your southern sand. Keep up the good work.
Cheryl Winter
