DVE Ride - response to Nick
David Putnam david@noblehorse.com
Hi all,
Nick, knock off fluffing our pillows and yank your head out of the sand.
You can save the chocolate kisses for somebody else. #1, impeccable
weather? how about cold and overcast the entire time we were there, didn't
miss my sunblock at all.
#2, and most importantly: my 25 on the second day was pretty much what I'd
call an airport ride circumnavigating a dried up piece of lake bed, pretty
much a yawner no matter what the weather. What made it fun was plenty of
great conversations with my riding partners. The four lead riders cut
trail and didn't mind blowing off the vet check. Back at the finish, I
announced this to Jackie, backed up by my riding partners and witnesses:
Eric Thompson, Julie Suhr and family. We had all agreed that we missed 4
sets of tracks and the vet confirmed with us not vetting them through.
When I announced this to Jackie, she gave me a very firm "DAVID IT JUST
DOESN'T MATTER!"
Only because I threatened an official protest to Maryben Stover who was
present at a private meeting with the witnesses, did the results get
changed. Without the kind and concerned ear of Julie Suhr, the revision of
the results would not have taken place, based on previous experiences at
other rides of Jackie's that I won't get into here. I found out that
numerous other riders have had similar experiences with Jackie's rides.
Email me privately if you want details.
Glitchy? corrupt? you make your own judjement. Ride Managers who sanction
through the AERC have an obligation to uphold the rules that are provided
for us all for the safety, pleasure and equality for all. Anything else is
unacceptable.
If "It doesn't matter", then don't give us a map, no time limit, no AERC
sanction, just point out there onto the horizon and say "You guys get lost
for a few hours and have a nice day"
