A Nice story; you have also figured out what Ray Hunt, John Lyons etc.
mean when they say "the reins are attached to the feet, otherwise you're
just pulling on their heads!" Doubling your pony or horse and then asking
them to go forward quietly is a smart thing to do. You may have to do it
a thousand times, but probably not. The key is riding with a reasonably
soft rein, and when the horse gets chargy, double him, then offer the
soft rein again. Your round pen is the perfect place to start. Be safe,
