Well Steve and Trudy, (I have an aunt Trudy) here's
what I can share about the pain.
The more fit you are, the less painful it can be.
However, the more beer you drink, the less pain you feel, no matter what kind of
shape you are in. Except for Sunday morning and the drive home. There is nothing
for that unless you have a prescription. (did you say Trudy was a
nurse??)
Now any ride and any distance can be pain free,
unless of course you have an accident. Like your horse tripping and catapulting
you faster and further than any Olympic shot putter. (all over body pain) Or you
fall out of the truck along with a bale of hay. (just a swollen ankle, Advil and
half chap kept the swelling down for one more ride) Or your fold up chair has it
in for you and takes you down. (knee injury, she didn't like running any way)
Ahhh, such memories!
Of course, how you camp has a lot to do with it as
well. You may THINK you had a pain free ride until you crawl into a hard bed,
with no shower and it's raining sheets and pellets and leaking through
your tent on to your bed and then the wind starts to howl and it freezes in the
middle of the night. And you only have one blanket. Trust me, you will be
hurting in the morning. And if you drank to much beer in anticipation of the on
coming pain, your gonna have a long, miserable ride home. Even if you only live
an hour away. That kind of ache stays with you until the middle of the next
week. It would be best not to speak to each other on the way home either. It can
get ugly, fast.
Believe me when I say, your horse more than likely
will never experience the amount of pain and soreness you will. Which of course,
is how it should be.
This is our sport, and welcome to it.
Ride 'til you puke came from somewhere, think about
it.
You'll be fine, have a good time. ;]
