[RC] Rider pain - Steven & Trudy Hurd

In the posts I received about advice for a 48yo more than a few of you mentioned pain. Here are some examples.
-The pain goes away...sort of like having a baby...soon as the ride is over you are planning the next one.
    -Pain is temporary
-Thought I was going to die the first 3 months
My question is...How many of you experience pain during long rides and how much pain do you endure for the love of your sport? I am not averse to pain...having done marathons.. however ,my wife and riding partner is.  Has anyone found ways to lessen rider discomfort? What helps? My wife is a nurse so on a scale of 1 to 10(ten unbearable) what levels do you ride with? Is a 50 twice as painful as a 25? Do you find that a ride can be very uncomfortable and yet again the same ride in the same saddle on the same horse another day is wonderful?? Thanks again for your opinions,Steve
