Re: [RC] shoeing/barefoot/traction question - DESERTRYDR1
Some ride managers require shoes or equivalent at their rides. They are the
best judge of conditions of their trails, and have the right to make
conditions for their rides.
Contact the ride manager of the ride you want to do and ask if shoes are
required, and what the trail conditions are. If shoes aren't required, and
if your mare has lots of conditioning miles on similar levels of rockiness,
consider doing the ride without shoes, knowing that you may have to pull if
there is a problem.
If your mare has NEVER had shoes, I would say that putting shoes on four
weeks in advance of the first ride would give her enough time to adjust to
the change. If you want to be extra careful, shoe her so that she has had
one cycle, six weeks and is in the middle of the second cycle for the ride.
Good luck, jeri
