Re: [RC] Selling horses - Bette Lamore

    Hi Merryben
You don't see me complaining that some are getting bigger bucks for endurance. I got word that Becky Hart arranged a big sale of Halyva Filly (one of my favorite Halynov daughters) to the Middle East and I am happy for her owner. Still I have to tell you I have mixed feelings. On one hand I should be elated that one of my offspring has a chance at the best training and all that money can buy to help her become a world champion (good for business) AND on the other hand, I have hopes for all my "kids" that they wind up with a family who loves them and gives them carrots and who maybe does endurance, jumping, showing--- whatever--- but my offspring's main "job" is to bring the beautiful loving and giving, so typical of the Arabian, into their owner's life. I had initially heard that Filly went to the princess of Jordan, whom I've seen on TV and know she would get some hugs. Now someone told me they saw her name as a part of the Emirate herd.
If anyone on-line knows where she is and how she's doing, I'd LOVE to know (and I'm not talking race record here, although I am curious of that-- but not as important as how she is.)
I know there are other breeders, many of them here on ridecamp: Maria, Kim, Heidi, Sandy.. and on and on.. who also are VERY connected to their foals. It is like seeing them move away from home--- waaaay away -- to have them go overseas. Sure the money would be nice, but I for one am not sure I'd have the heart to do it. I turned down $500,000 for Halynov once (from jumper breeders from Brazil) and many would call me stupid for doing so (even Mark questions that decision from time to time) but looking back on what my family gained from our involvement with Halynov, I would probably make the same decision if I had it to do over again, even though it was not a good one financially speaking.
When the last breaths are being spent, all one has are the memories..
Oh well--- must be in a philosophical mood tonight, but then Frank just lost his Halynov son in an endurance accident (not his fault) and I am reminded once again to appreciate these wonderful critters for as long as we are privileged to share their company. I just pray they get back the same love which they give so freely.
    Bette

Heard that the French BC horse was sold for $500,000.00.

They added up the total recovery time for Meg Wade's horse and it was a total of 7 minutes for the entire 100 miles, which was the horse's first 100 miler. Pretty awesome horse.
