RE: [RC] trailer preferences: stock or 'horse' trailer - Snodgrass, Bonnie
I've seen too many horses fall down in stock trailers and the drivers
frequently don't even know it happened. There is nothing to stop a horse
from staggering around the interior of a stock trailer, that doesn't have
slant dividers, until they come up against the sides. I didn't own a trailer
for years and was often following my horse being hauled in someone elses
trailer. Or, I've been caravaning behind friends and got to watch their
horses. I've seen horses that were loose and tied go down, mostly just their
hind end but one went all the way down and the drivers hadn't a clue. A good
alternative is a slant load with really big windows with grates at the head
wall and stock type slats on the tail wall. Dividers can be taken in and
out, most rear tack compartments fold flat and are removeable. I haul hay in
my Dream Coach by folding the tack compartment wall flat and latching it,
removing the real divider, and folding the front divider flat against the
wall. Gives a wide open interior with no center post at the rear doors. All
this depends on the type of doors, door latches and dividers that you have.
My trailer allows for different configurations while trailer training or
hauling.
