Re: [RC] Bowman (and other Australian horses) - Karen J. Zelinsky

This whole Australian-bred-horse thread brings back an old horse-memory
    in this old-head....
    When I was young - i.e., ~ 10yo, 1959 ?? (not that it matters)... down in
southern Illinois, I frequented a riding stable, and lived in my fantasy
world of caring for horses, lessons, and hoping one day to have my very
own.... sound familiar ya'll? Mr. and Mrs. Young owned Culp stables, and
these people lived a colorful life... I remember Mr. Young galloping off
one evening on an incredible horse, 6-pack of beer strapped on behind his
western saddle. That incredible looking horse - a chestnut race-horse
(stallion, I think) from Australia moved like he was a pistol about to
explode (you get the idea?)... incredible, strong, Arabian-like, refined
body, with tons of muscle. That was my only impression of a horse from
Australia. And you know, kids have different perceptions of everything,
but, I KNOW that horse was a drop-dead gorgeous horse. I only wish I
could see him again. Poor horse -- a cowboy with spurs, and alcoholic at
that, running into the sunset with him. Those were the days....
So, is that a taste of most horses down under, or what? Come to think of
it, which country do a lot of polo ponies originate from? South America?
     Australia?

    Reminiscing, and living-in-the-past-right- now ....

Anyhow..... fast forward to now.... congrats to our team! Like everyone,
I can't wait to hear the juicy stories from them!
    Karen
