Re: [RC] sport saddles - Tara Wheeler
I tell people that the acid test as to whether or not you'll like riding in
a Sports Saddle is how much you like to ride bareback.
If you love bareback riding and can do it for hours without your hips,
knees, or back hurting you, you'll love the Sports Saddle.
People with narrow hips, used to sitting on a narrow tree generally can't
stand Sports Saddles.
Balance also becomes a big issue. If you just sit deep in your saddle like
you're in a chair at home and don't do much posting or two-point, I'll bet
you even money you'll hurt your horse (I have seen some people do exactly
this on the right horse with no problems, and I've seen others fix all their
horse's back problems by switching to a SS and taking balanced riding
lessons). If you move and groove with your horse, you'll feel every little
cue he makes and if he's going to wig out, you'll generally know just before
he blows.
