Courage, my little horse of many years ago, stood 14.2 if you stretched him
a bit and weighed 825#.  He carried me over mountain and desert for many
years.  He carried my husband, who tacks up at 211# with a Saare saddle, or
about 205# with an English saddle, to a very close second place on a 50 mile
ride once.  I'd say  conformation, conditioning, muscling, and will to
compete is more important than sheer size.  I think a very tall man just
feels awkward unless he has a tall horse under him.
