Re: [RC] [RC] trailer loading - a caveat - Tara Wheeler
I'm sorry this guy claimed to be a Parelli student.
We don't use ropes and force to get our horses to load (and we certainly
don't force them down and sit on them!).
We use a similar method (without the stud chain) mentioned in an earlier
post. Anytime the horse so much as looks into the trailer they get praise
and no pressure. If they don't even try to look, they get pressure from the
rope halter and lead rope (not wrapped around anything) and the carrot stick
in our hand (you could use a buggy whip) tapped on the ground, waved at the
head or hip, or tapped on the head or hip.
We tap with the carrot stick and do not strike the horse unless they try to
run over us to get away (and then it's a block and not discipline).
I just graduated level one and am studying for level two. I now can sit on
the wheel well of my trailer and ask my horse to load and he will go around
to the door, walk in and stand there until asked to come out.
Anyone can claim to be following anyone's program. If someone's a Parelli
graduate, they've got a pin and diploma to prove it (I won't ask y'all to
memorize the colors of strings on our carrot sticks). I wouldn't let anyone
under level two do something I wouldn't do myself with my horse.
And always, always, always, say <<<<NO!!!>>> if anyone does anything you are
not comfortable with.
Always trust your gut and take your live horse away from them.
