Ride start. We leave a couple of minutes
behind the crowd. Both of our horses are somewhat new to this sport. Both
have under 500 miles. Right now we are working on brain. So we start
slow. We walked down the little hill to the trail head and picked up the
trot. Because all of the other horses are out of sight both of our horses
were wonderful. Ed crosses all of the water without fuss. We get to
to Vet 1 in just under 2 hours. I went over to sponge Ed. He is
a panter and it was warm and I wanted to stay ahead of the game. I went
into the box and Ed was down. Looked over and Sue was ahead of me. Rocky
was down and in the vet line. Get behind her, we vet through just
fine. Both horses eat during the whole hold time. We are off on the
next leg.
Through town, then down to the river once
again. This is where this ride gets it's name and the fun
reputation. It is such a blast to ride in the tunnels and through all of
the water. The High Sierra's don't have this much water. I wish we
had spent more time there.
In to basecamp and Vet 2. Horses looking and
feeling good. Terry Wooley comes over to check pulse. Said "he's
down, HE'S DEAD!" and laughs.....Guess we are riding appropriate for the
conditions. Out time will be 11:00. Not bad. Have done many
rides where my IN time at this point is 11:00. This is good, now we will
have more time for the afternoon to go easy as needed.....little did I
know.....
