Re: [RC] Norco Ride: So California - Lynne Glazer

Amazing, isn't it--marine layer staying until noonish, with temps of
84--just what I "ordered", and then after almost everyone had reached
basecamp for the LD finish or hold for the 50s, we got record high
heat.

We had 157 entrants, many of them at the last minute. 95 LD
riders--this ride has always had more 50s than 25s. Approximately 80
volunteers, counting the trail monitors--I'd bought 220 polo shirts,
good thing I had some leftovers from past years. The leftovers are
smalls and mediums! Happy 'bout that.

We had 20 first-time riders, only one of whom pulled--her mare was
fighting her, and wore her out--but how would you like it if at your
first ride ever, the vet check was literally a few doors down from
your house? The mare could probably hear her herd calling.

The new riders were all given stethoscopes as a gift from the ride at
the ride meeting. At the awards, those who completed got a $10 gift
certificate from Trail Rite for their gear.

We're having an unmarking-BBQ next Sunday, if anyone wants to come
spend the morning de-ribboning, please RSVP. It's supposed to be 84
degrees. The hills will already be unmarked, river riding only. ;-)

with a big "Amen!" to Julie's post about volunteering...
