    Quoted from Bia's message:
I will personally file a complaint with the FCC that will include the list owners name.

Actually I don't believe the FCC has any jurisdiction over things like email discussion lists. They are just a type of mail, electronic in form - and the FCC has nothing to do with mail. Email lists are not for public consumption (you have to subscribe) and are not over public airwaves or public internet access (you *choose* to subscribe to them!). So you can file a complaint with the FCC but it won't do any good, any more than filing a complaint about receiving, opening and reading a letter that *you requested be sent to you* would.

This list is not a democracy. Lists are considered the private property of the list owner and in this case it's Steph's party and she makes the rules. She's also the only one who has the right to be an enforcer unless she hires other enforcers (generally referred to as list moderators, list moms, etc.). We have been invited to attend Steph's party and we are all free to leave if we want. We can complain to Steph if we don't like the conversations but we haven't got the right to censor. We are of course free to "take it outside" if we need to. But no matter if we think the sheath thread is funny or obscene, it's not ours to decide, it's Stephs alone.

By the way, while this list is likely the "premiere" endurance email list of the internet, is not an *official* AERC email list, it's not an arm of AERC and so it doesn't have to be a PG list. If there are juniors who read this list, it is solely the responsibility of the parents to decide what their kids can and can't read, and the parents' responsibility for dealing with it if they don't like the content. However, filing a complaint with the FCC just isn't going to work.

My advice to anyone who's upset with RC conversations - use your email program's filter functions. I myself have got some RC senders blocked, and if I was sick of the sheath discussion and sick of using the delete key, I'd make a filter for the word "sheath" in the subject line and have it sent directly to trash. However, I am pretty amused by all of it and am reading every email on the subject. Some of you crack me up, even if you didn't mean to!
