Probably either where an old abcess blew out or an injury
to the coronet band is growing out. If it was an injury you may be able to
feel a slight irregularity at the point from where it is growing
down...sometimes it feels like a dimple. The "ridge" though as you
described it sounds to me like an old abcess.
