Re: [RC] portable corrals - Arthur King

Boy, I hadn't thought of this in a long time. I woke up to find my horse
gone & my corral still up. I had even gone the 2 strand version. BUT,
and this is in '87, I didn't know you were supposed to use electric
fence. I thought all that those fences were made of was that nylon
bailing string. I went deluxe & bought the white cotton clothes line so
the horse could see it real good. He was blind in 1 eye. And he really
wasn't gone, he was tied to the trailer I was sleeping in!! OK, that's
Friday night. Had a good ride, horse was tired & I had tightened up the
fence. Went to bed & Sunday morning he REALLY wasn't there. It's
easier to find a bay App gelding with a blanket in a ridecamp than a
gray Arab so I was directed where to get him rather quickly. He had
grazed his way between 2 real electric fences & couldn't turn around so
he just waited to be rescued. The most ironic thing was I was a NATRC
horsemanship judge & had been tying to the trailer for the past 12 years
so I got quite a bit of ribbing about loosing my horse. Now I have a
generic version of a trailer tie type system on my trailer. It's 2 iron
squares welded on the trailer & I slide a stationary piece with a 2 ft.
arm down into it. I still use my electric fence (real one now) but
always tie my horse overnight. Leigh
p.s. Howard, I'm not joking. You should've been riding in the late
80's. There was some SEERIOUS beer drinking goin' on!
Just ask Susan K about the Dawson ride with the hot tubs & champagne!!
