    It used
to be that way, when the XP rides actually were on the route of the Pony
Express.  All this changed when ride managers found out that more riders
would come if they could park in a base camp, didn't have to move each day,
and didn't have to bring a driver.
Granted, a lot easier, but not very historical.  I guess a lot of riders
don't really care if they are riding on the same trail as the pioneers
traveled over 150 years ago, but personally I find it fascinating and
    awe-inspiring.  Sigh.......

My husband and I wish the Multidays were still on the historical trails with the point to point camps.  We loved the feeling of going somewhere instead of doing loops back to the same base camp.  This same base camp gives you the feeling of just doing miles for the sake of doing miles.  Not the same as going somewhere different every day.  We loved the feeling of traveling with our horses.  We never had a problem with drivers or having to have a crew for the point to point mulitdays. You sent you stuff out with Ride management, got to the VC and opened your box and rested.  Too bad modern living attitudes have to be brought to these events (& I don't mean modern equipment either), by once again making it SO EASY for the mass of city folk.  Multidays should have the feeling of a pioneer going down the trail.  That was the fun of it!
BTW Barbara....you put on the most beautiful ride!...The Swanton Pacific!  This ride is a must do and you do have the feeling of adventure!  Never do you go back to base camp.  I loved that, and so did our horses!
