Ridecamp: Re: [RC] Trail conditions (was Re: [RC] Need Bail, quick)

I first heard this BS about "safe trtails" in a publication by the MN Horse
Council.  They had graded the trails from Easy to difficult.  The "easy
trails", in addition to being flat, with no water crossings, had these (or
similar )width, line of sight requirements.

Even though state horse councils are supposed to represent and lobby for all
horse groups, they are often dominated by show interests.  At least here in
MN and WI some of the influential show people never take a horse out of a
ring and have no concept of trails and riding in the open.  They probably
tried it once,  found that their "perfect" horse paniced,  and concluded
that it is a strange and risky thing to do with a horse.

My moral: look for help from trail rider groups, if your horse council is
like the one's I have worked with.

PS:  If you are working with a knowlegable and supportive horse council,
continue.  I never said that they all are not supportive or clueless about
trails.
