[RC] catching when tripping - Debby Stai
I am not an engineer or a scientist, I don't understand how a 100lb
rider can help a 1200lb horse to not trip, I just know it has worked for
me. I have fallen, several times more than I care to remember, mostly
my fault as I wasn't paying attention or I was tired and didn't have the
strength to help, my fault. But I do know that just holding him for
however long you said it could only have been, a thought of a second
perhaps. In any case, thats what it takes sometimes to just give that
horse the tiniest amount of time to help him recover. Its almost like a
half halt, telling him just a minute here, catch yourself, rebalance
yourself. If my seat isn't good, if I'm not paying attention, many
other things could go wrong and I'm eating dirt BUT I know I've helped
my horse recover a trip that could have had me eating dirt and didn't.
Maybe it is a balance issue, I work alot on dressage, even do some
jumping, I ride with contact so I'm always, or try to be, in contact
with my horse. I try very hard to not fall, paying attention is the big
factor for me. I think theres been many times that I've fallen if I'd
just been paying more attention, I wouldn't have. Guess what works for
some, doesn't work for all. Debby
