We have had them as late as September here in Michigan and they were fine. Whatever you do - do not keep it in the stall!! Go ahead and let it out every day, believe me the foal will figure out where it can run and where it cant. They need that friskiness to develop properly.
We had one (due to an escapee stud one winter) in December, we decided to keep him stalled most of the day and turn out just a few hours every evening, after thousands of dollars in vet bills we ended up having to put him down. His front legs developed with the outside growing faster than the inside. Now I don't know if this was directly related to stalling him, but I will never make that mistake again. It was a heartbreaker, he was such a good boy! I'm not a vet or anything, but use common sense and everything will workout.
Good luck,
Kari

Due to unforseen cicumstances my lease mare will not be foaling until around
the end of july of next year . Any of you breeders out there have any
experience with this late of foals ? I am at 7000 ft. with snow from oct/nov
until april/may . I do have a big stall inside the barn but am more worried
about the foal running and slipping when let out during the day .
