[RC] helmet controversy- from a lurker - GoTory
As I've been following the thread on Ridecamp regarding helmets, a very
experienced rider from our local horsemen's group is in a coma at the neuro
ICU after a fall yesterday when her young horse took off bucking and took her
into a ravine. After surgery to remove blood clots, her prognosis for
survival is less than 50%. Her husband is physically unable to manage the
basic care for the horses, and neighbors and club members will be
volunteering assistance. And, no, Jan was not wearing a helmet- she never
did.
Who will take care of your horses and family in the event of such tragic
circumstances?
A helmet won't prevent all injuries, but can't we at least take the steps
that we have available to us to minimize the risks?
