Duane and I ventured out of region a few weeks ago to a ride in the NE. At
the ride meeting they announced that you had 30 minutes only at the finish to
come down, "a new rule". I argued at length <g>, and then sent my board
member hubby to show them that it was an hour. He never voted on a rule
change to 30 min, nor did Susan Kasemeyer (mom) they had only voted to make
everyone recover in 30 min. at vet checks, so wanted them to know. They left
it at 30 min. even after saying that what Duane showed them was correct that
yes after reading rule it said one hour. They had posted it in writing at
the registration desk and announced it at ride meeting. You can have more
strict rules if it is in writing (according to the preamble) at the pre ride
briefing if it provides greater safety to horse or rider. You could argue
that it was in writing at registration and not given to riders at the meeting
in writing. I would worry if my horse didn't come down in 30 min anyway, but
since no rule change was made, it should be an hour. Then after getting
home, find in August endurance news that Randy posted it was 30 min. 6.2.1.1
says ...must stand a mandatory post-ride evaluation within 1 hour. 6.2.1.2
which follow that says...must reach a reasonable pulse recovery based on
ambient conditions, within 30 minutes of arrival time of all control points
    during the ride.
Also Randy states to see Veterinary handbook for additional information on
completion criteria. It states: the post-ride completion exam may be
carried out as soon as the horse has finished and reached pulse recovery.
This must be accomplished within one hour of crossing the finish line.
