Re: [RC] WNV in Colo - Rant Warning - Lif Strand

Quoted from Howard Bramhall's message:
Go up to the horse owner who just lost her horse (she can't stop crying)
and tell her that only 30% of those horses that contract WNV will die.
Howard - Get a grip! Did you read the last line of my post: "Take
reasonable precautions but please, don't be a sheep!"? If so, then you'd
see I agree that in your area getting vaccinations is quite reasonable. If
your county has so many cases of WNV then the horse owner who lost her
horse should have gotten it vaccinated because that's reasonable. She
didn't, I suppose, and while I feel sorry for her and the other person who
lost his/her horse, that doesn't mean that there's a national epidemic
crisis and we all should run out and vaccinate our horses, even in places
where we've only gotten 2" of precipitation since last January (there's a
drought here, in case anyone missed that).

My post was in response to the "sky is falling" type of posts - WNV is not
the *whole sky* falling! Just because WNV could potentially kill off 30%
of the horse population in humid swamp/bug/spider/snake infested Florida
where probably the Creature from the Black Lagoon really lives doesn't mean
that 30% of the horses in the US are going to drop dead if we all don't
rush out this very second and get those shots.
