Re: [RC] My votes on the BOD Motions - Lynne Glazer

   Motion #14

Prepared by: Limited Distance Committee/Gail Williams, Chairman

Statement of Motion: Criteria for selecting a Best Condition horse
on a Limited Distance ride be the same in all ways as
that for any other endurance distances.

RR- VOTE YES. SUSPECT IF A RULE REQUIRES CHANGES TO FACILITATE
COMPLIANCE, THERE MAY BE OTHER MOTIONS GENERATED FROM THIS. SINCE THIS
IS NOT LISTED A RULE CHANGE BUT A POLICY STATEMENT. WHAT EVER THE
OUTCOME, I SUPPORT LD BC AND THE PROCESS TO SELECT SAME.
Hi, Roger, thanks for your efforts.

I also support LD BC. When is the board going to address the
dichotomy between LD *racing* in order to be considered for BC under
AERC rules at all, and the customary listing of names only no times
no placement in EN?

Make a decision. To me, it is simply ludicrous to say, "don't RACE,
you LD riders!" at the same time that you say "Hurry UP, if you want
to be considered for BEST CONDITIONED HORSE, you must RACE and be top
ten!".

Personally, I think LD times and finishing order ought to be listed
in EN. Sure, everyone has different goals in LD (as many of us do in
50s as well), and people like to compare themselves to the rest of
the field. I think that's harmless.

I would like to see another way of doing BC consistently across the
nation, without rewarding speed. Don't know what that is. Something
for the LD committee to work on.

I'm going along with the "system" for the first time this year--we're
having an AERC-style LD BC per the rules, and we're having 5 "high
vet score" awards that consider the whole field for everyone else.
Sure, maybe some of the top ten might qualify for one of those, too.
We use the vet portion of the BC worksheet--yep, it's a little extra
work for the vets & ridestaff, but it's printed on the vet cards and
done in conjunction with the completion check. And the riders get
the cards back at the awards--with something tangible to take home.
