Re: [RC] kids stirrups - Bette Lamore
Hi Kathy
Don't know if they make them for Western saddles, but I got some
stirrups for my kids, when they were small, that ha e thick "rubber
bands" for the outside and metal only on the inside--- that way, they
are truly quick release and my kids could never get their feet caught in
the stirrups. I know they have them for English saddles; perhaps someone
has seen modified ones for Western?
That is my one BIG FEAR in starting my horses---- being drug by the leg
in the event of an involuntary dismount. That's probably the biggest
reason I use an English saddle with a "chicken bar" for the first few
times (that plus I hate all the leather on Western saddles anyway).
Good Luck!!

My daughter is nearly 6 and ready to do more riding than just being led
in the arena. I have an old western saddle, with stirrups and taps, but
the taps are so deformed she can hardly get her foot in the stirrup (I
have vague memories of this always being the case with taps when I was a
child, too).
I use stirrups with a cage, and am wondering if anyone makes child-sized
stirrups with cages? Or should I just get her some boots?
