This is very true, but I have also bought two of my best horses from people
who were petrified of them. Not a thing wrong with the horse, all the
problem was with the former owner.
Some people buy horses with no knowledge, just because they have the space
in the country and don't take lessons (or ride on a regular basis), then
have an accident or a problem and just get out of horses.
Have a good look round, ask lots of 'how long have you been in horses'
questions and do some ground work with the horse.
I bought a horse from one person who was astounded when I corrected the
horse. They'd never done that before. . .
