April, you are obviously a good rider with a great sence of
balance. I should have been more specific and said that
those not used to riding bareback will have a tendency to
grip with their whole leg and may unintentionally create a
bad habit that will be hard to break. Some bareback riders
will also have a tendency to "pinch" with their knees with
out realizing they are doing this...another no no. When I
was learning to jump I had this habit and still hear my
coach telling me to grip with my upper thighs and not my
knees <VBG>...oh, and keep my eyes open over the jump...lol
