Re: [RC] Helmets - sharp penny
For some of us it takes years to get this smart! I always
ride with a helmet when I leave the property and
occasionally when I remember in the arena. My reasoning,
albet skewed, "well I'm already on, the arena is safe with
lots of cushiony footing and I only have X amount of time
to ride today..don't want to waste it getting off to go
find my helmet". A little less than a month ago my horse
lost his footing and went tail over head. A freak accident.
I ended up smooshed up against the fencing panel with both
of us very surprised! My helmutless head put a major dent
in the panel and I had a horrific headache for a good week.
I did go get my helmet (nothing like doing something after
the fact) before I got back up on Reno but then had to
dismount when my ribs objected to being jiggled. At the
time I was more in pain from re-injuring my ribs so went to
the emergency room. Never even thought to mention my head
as I never blacked out or experienced any dizziness. My
head is still tender to touch where I connected it with the
fence and now I will NEVER EVER mount my horse with out my
helmet!
It helps when you find a helmet that fits your head size
and shape. I went through several styles before finally
finding one that didn't wibble wobble on my head and was
comfortable and relatively cool.
Regards,
Penny
