[RC] Thyroid problem in distance horse - Ridecamp Guest
Sharon Dickerson NANDSA@xxxxxxx
I have a very experienced distance horse with over 1300 miles but he is avery hard keeper. Although he is somewhat high strung he is very controllable atthe rides so I don'treally consider this a problem. He gets a 3lb coffee can of a mixed feed called Supreme Advantage and a half of that same can of rice bran mixed with beet pulp twice a day plus all the grass hay that he will eat. At time he will not finish his grain mixture preferring to eat the hay. I have noticed that he seems to be very thin skinned in that he easily gets a skin rub and that his skin feels cool to the touch. Today I noticed that the hair over his rump is coming out in clumps and he has lost even more weight leading me to believe that he has sometype of thyroid problem. Have any of you experienced any of this in your own horses? I am having my vet do a blood analysis of him this week.
Thanks for any information - Sharon
