WILLIAMSBURG Filmmakers shooting portions of the movie "Cold Mountain" in Virginia in September are holding open casting calls for hundreds of extras.
Casting company Fincannon & Associates said Monday it is looking for people of all ages and races, but in particular black men and women, and white men with facial hair to portray Confederate and Union soldiers.
The film is based on the Civil War novel by Charles Frazier that follows the journey of an injured Confederate soldier from the Atlantic coast to his waiting lover in the Appalachian Mountains. It is being directed by Anthony Minghella and stars Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, Donald Sutherland, Natalie Portman, Renee Zellweger and Giovanni Ribisi.
The casting call will take place at the Williamsburg Outlet Mall Aug. 14-15 from noon to 6 p.m. Interviews will take place in the Levi's Outlet by Designs section of the mall. Interested people should bring a recent Polaroid-size photograph of themselves.
The filming itself will take place in the Williamsburg area in early September. Additional scenes will be filmed in the Richmond area. Most of the filming will take place in Romania.
