Re: [RC] leasing and how many days a week do you ride for a25? - Lif Strand
Quoted from Colleen Egleston's message:
over-worked my body by working out twice
in one day or in some cases, hard workouts two days in a row.
You yourself have pointed out why the two days in a row thing hasn't worked
for you. You *over* worked. When I talk about back-to-back conditioning,
I'm not talking about maximal effort two days in a row, but instead
sub-maximal work for two or more days in a row. As I recall, horses will
walk 20 miles per day on their own, given the space. So if you put a rider
on a decently conditioned horse and maintain an easy walk/trot pace for 2
or 3 days in a row, why would this be overwork? I've seen horses improve
in conditioning too many times when taking them over multi-day trail rides
to believe that this harms them if they were in good condition to begin
with. I've also seen horses that were in good physical condition develop
tack problems with this kind of conditioning - something that needed
discovering and might not have till ride day. Multi-day conditioning can
be a useful tool for endurance ride prep.
