RE: [RC] paddling - Rae Callaway

Hmm, something is definitely different.  My Scarlet paddles (it's pretty obvious from head on) and she has an incredibly smooth trot.  I barely lift off the saddle to post!  I've actually had to take some lessons to relearn how to post when I started riding her son, Chief, who has perfectly straight legs and trots like a normal Arab.
Now, on the canter - the odd feeling you're describing sounds to me like your horse is on the wrong lead in the rear.  Scarlet did that a lot before we started exercises to strengthen her hind end.  Now when she canters, it's smooth, but if she starts to get tired, the back end will switch to the wrong lead and we're rolling side to side more - not comfortable at all.  See if you can have someone watch you while you canter to see if the hind lead is staying the same as the front lead.

    Subject: [RC] paddling

Does anyone have experience with a horse that paddles?  I have had so many vets tell me that my horse really paddles.  Corky is anything but smooth to ride, the canter feels like half my body is going one way and the other half is going another way, like being torn in half, slowly.

What can I do about this?  Did I mention that no matter what I do Corky is an obese little pug of a horse, does this affect his paddling?  If this subject had already been touched just e-mail me privately and tell me to shut up.

Also there are some really nice McCoy horses for sale around here, the guys just wants them to go to nice homes and they've been kept well, e-mail me privately on this one too and I'll hook you up.
