Rest is as important as work in a conditioning program. You should ride
every other day at most, and a 3-day-a-week program works well for most
horses, with two shorter rides followed by one rest day and a longer ride
followed by two rest days. Even horses conditioning for 100's often only
do 5-10 miles on the short days, with the long day getting progressively
longer as time goes on, or even being replaced by competitions.
