Re: Subject: [RC] Land prices - Irene M Burnett
Well, now, ALL Californ-y ain't expensive. By golly, you can get 10
acres with a 2000sq. ft. house barn, arena, water, trees for about
$250,000. But, I'm talking really NAWTH California; from Redding on up.
Areas to ride!!?? Oh yes, yes, yes. The mountains and high, cool
elevations can be reached in an hour, you can hit the Pacific Crest trail
and ride all the way to Canada, if you like, or Mexico. Not much traffic,
population is low, even more so in North-East California. Hay ain't too
pricey, either. (You can buy a nice little hay ranch and grow alfalfa and
timothy, if you can stand really cold winters). Lots of endurance rides
within 2 to 4 hours driving. So, what's the catch....hmmm, temps get up
to 117 in the summer, and winters can be long and wet. Good paying jobs?
Sure, if you consider $10 or so good...!!! If you're retired and sold
you house for a fancy price, you can get a really nice place very
reasonably and not have to drive an old beater and dress from the local
Sally's store, or consider eating out is cooking hot dogs down by the
river. But, wouldn't trade it for an area where people would kill for
a slot on the freeway that puts them one car length ahead of you. Renie
