We just spent last weekend at Big South Fork, doing a
longer training ride in preperation for the September ride. My
boyfriend/SO (what should you call them when your in your 40's?
Boyfriend sounds so teenage!) anyway... he was riding his new arabian that we
have had about 6 months or so. This horse has had a habit of doing the
"spook and spin" and it was one of our reasons for going to the Tek Marciniak
clinic I had told you about earlier. Well, we really saw the benefit of
that clinic this weekend, not that he didn't spook at all, but it was just
the sudden stop and looking at things, no spin and run. And for now
that is acceptable, and time will cure that. We were even laughing
about it... saying the horse was just "checking in" and making sure Mike was
still paying attention. Anyway.... I agree, set up
alot of objects in an arena and work on it. I think thats what the clinic did
for this horse was to "overload" his senses until things out on the trail
weren't as big a deal. And I think it made Mike alot more
comfortable and confident with this horse too... and that has to help the
horse too.
