Pretty cool, huh? The funny thing is the city charter specifies horse>
trails> through all developments, so even all the million dollar
properties are horse friendly.
O.K. O.K. I'll have to play my Ace card.... COASTAL BERMUDA HAY $2.00 PER
BALE...GAS $1.18 GAL. NO EARTHQUAKES, NO FOREST FIRES. PASTURE BOARD $50
PER MONTH. >eg< Things aren't *all* bad here. :-) But seriously, I'm
interested in your neighborhood plan.
the *concept* of that development has spread out here a little, but the
builders and people didn't quite pull it off. My brother bought land
adjoining a development like that in Knoxville, TN. All the streets have
horsey names "Steeplechase, Triple Crown, etc." Each house had an extra
acre for their horse field. They left a bridle path right of way through
the subdivision. At first all the houses had horses. Then, they saw
what 1/2 acre looks like when a couple of horses live on it. Certainly
hurt the looks of their big houses. Nobody mowed the bridle path and it
grew up. Now, 10 years later I think there's only 2 houses left that
actually have horses and they managed to buy extra land. It's a shame.
Now 600 acres of land near me is starting to develop. It has a trail on
it that goes to the top of Lookout Mountain and down, and then a few
miles along the creek. One of the new builders (who owns half the land
but probably is going to sell it in parcels) is a lawyer and they got
their first horse this week. I've been told they've been given my number
as "the horse info-lady". First thing he asked my daughter was "where do
you ride?" Anybody want to give me a place I could hook him up with to
help plan maybe a trail system through the area that could stay open as
it develops? What about liability on the trail? Does it become a public
right of way? If so, can they still keep tresspassers from outside off?
