ET may not actually increase the number of foals as the
market will only bear so many. But what it would do is
have a severe impact on the total genetic pool available.
One of the reasons TB race horses are produced by live
cover only is to keep the genetic pool from colapsing.
Yet the pool is colapsing anyways from the the stallion
side. There are no TB race studs anymore that sire line
back to either the Golophin Arabian or the Byerly Turk.
Yet those stallions were the ones who had the stamina
and staying power, the ones who were sound and solidly
built. Instead the TB stallions have colapsed to the
brilliant speed sprints and weak legs that we see today.
With shipping seman, the Arabian stallion pool is already
down. ET would put presure on the mare pool as well.
Anyone know the story of what happened to the pure bred
Basenji's in the late 80's? They lost 75% of their dogs
and were lucky enough to be able to open the stud book
again to new imports from Africa. They were lucky because
the original Basenji dogs still exist there.
ET is a bad idea genetically speaking.
