I read Lonnie and Sylvia's post with particular
interest. How does age affect our endurance horses? I have seen some
campaigners, regularly competed and finish in high places, go on into their
20's. I think this is Fabulous!!!
How about horses that have been maintained in
moderate condition, trained up several times a year to do 50's and some years no
competitions at all? I ask for DeeDee and myself:)) She is 16 and we
have competed lightly, say 10 times over the past 9 years. Building career
and marriage, you know.
I am gearing up my business and horse trailer issue
(arg!) to compete more regularly in 50's and to try 100's next season.
Questions come to mind as to muscle strains, JOINTS, supplements and
change in diet to accomodate digestion and vitamin/enzyme production not being
what is was. I know she needs to see an equine dentist now (floating teeth
is not enough) and I want advise as to boosting her immune system for the
stress.
Any one read the books on the aging athletes?
Any good? Homeopathic, too?
Thanks for all you input. I have 2 youngsters
waiting in the wings, but I am so comfortable with my "Redhead" and want to
learn as much as I can with her before launching Windy.
