Re: [RC] FYI - Rob
I think this is a good idea. In the dairy industry we used to super ovulate
the high producers, AI them with a high quality bull then flush the fertilized
eggs from the uterus. Then we'd use Dynoprost to heat synch a group of
donor cows and implant the fertilized eggs into their uterus' using the
AI technique. In effect allowing the superior producing cattle to have
at times two dozen offspring per breeding cycle. In the equine market it
would tend to give an unfair advantage to the breeder with the AI skills,
lab and the patience to sort through a petri dish of saline containing
fertilized ovum. The results in the diary industry are outstanding as far
as a production advantage goes. In the first crop of heifers I created
the milk pickup was from a 400 gallon tank every other day, In two years
time production increased to 1200 gallons being collected daily.
Milk check went from $7000 every two weeks to over $16,000 every week.
I personally think it would give the big money producer an unfair advantage,
as well as inflict the decline of other valuable blood lines that are good
horses but, not consistent top 10 finishers. After all Endurance Horses
have become a multimillion dollar world wide business. It would be a shame
to see the gene pool narrowed due to the fact it fattens one person's wallet
and brings a sense of fame to the purchaser's ego.

know that not all distance riders ride Arabians, but so many do - and there
are many quality breeders out there - that I wanted to touch bases with
this group re: this notion of ET. The Registry is now considering allowing
a mare to technically if not physically produce more than one registerable
foal per year. Aside from the obvious impact on the economics of the vast
majority of breeders, what do you all think of this?
