Ridecamp: [RC] ride frills

A good friend and long time rider made this comment to me that really made
me think.  Back when I started putting on Cougar Prowl in 88, all we needed
was a well marked trail and a couple of good vets.  Soon, it seemed, we were
in a poker game..each ride trying to add/improve little things to make
riders happy.  Now we have riders complain about no photographer, no water
troughs every two miles, etc.
Well, her comment was "Maybe rides are so much trouble anymore that that is
why we are losing our rides.  Ride managers are burnt out".
HELLO!!!
We are loosing at least three good rides next year in our region.  Ride
manager burnout.  YES.  And maybe it's because we did all these "nice
things" at our rides, and now people expect them at all rides, complain, and
well, geeze, the trouble ain't worth it!
