RE: [RC] Moonlight in VT - Dolores Arste
Hi
all, does anyone know the person riding the VT ride with the really cool light
on her helmet and her horse's browband. I'd love to get this sort of set up. I
don't know whether she was in the 100 or 50. But, I saw her leave the 86 mile
mark early in the finish lineup. I think she left there before Dinah and I think
she had a dark horse.

Hi All,
Thanks for all the helpful replies regarding "riding in the dark."
It was beautiful! The moon was full and the sky was clear and the
evening was cool. You could easily see on the dirt roads as the moon was
bright enough to cast shadows of the trees and us. It was a little
darker in the woods but I could still see a dark ribbon of trail and following
the glow sticks was a hoot. Only a little hairy when I got used to them
being on the right but then occasionally one was on the left. Almost
went off trail but my horse knew where it was and "convinced" me not to
deviate!
Decided on just one glowstick on the breastcollar and that
worked fine. With all the runners and their lights and the other horses
with lights it wasn't that dark. And with the pit stops for the horses
and the aid stations for the runners there were plenty of folks about to give
us company.
Only down side was our night was cut a bit short with 4
miles to go as my horse developed a muscle cramp in one hind leg so we called
it a "night." But otherwise a great deal of fun!
